Thanksgiving Is a Lifestyle Choice Worth Choosing
Psalm 9:1 “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”
Psalms 9:1 NIV
“I’m thanking you, God, from a full heart, I’m writing the book on your wonders. I’m whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I’m singing your song, High God.”
Psalms 9:1-2 MSG
You probably have a mother or other relative who once upon a time said, “Before we eat, let’s each say something we are thankful for.” It is not time to have this linear declaration when the rolls are hot and the turkey is warm and the potatoes, both sweet and starchy, invite you to cram forkfuls into your face. Maybe later over apple pie and before the Cowboys play.
Thanksgiving is less of a holiday and more of a lifestyle. We celebrate it with special fare and circumstances each year to remind us of how good God is to provide us with our daily bread. We reflect on the abundance of his mercy and kindness, love and grace discovered in relationships most dear and enduring.
May today be filled to overflowing with gratitude and goodness.
May your table groan and your plate be full.
May your nap be sweet and the Cowboys win.
May your memory gain another treasure to reflect on with pleasure as the years go on and turn into forever.
Application
I will give God thanks.
Prayer
Our Father, you are the Giver of All Good Things. We receive your gift of daily bread with gratitude. We receive your gift of loving relationships and enduring joy with endless thanksgiving. Amen.
